Housekeeping
Greetings, Readers of Glioblastology! This is a short post, with a logistical update. Don’t worry, I have a quality post in process in the usual style to share with you early this week! Read on for a quick update.
I am moving this newsletter—our newsletter—back to Wordpress. I want to be candid about why I have made this choice and what this means for you. There is nothing that you need to do on your end, unless you would like to continue as a paid subscriber. Read on!
“Substack’s Nazi Problem”
Behind the scenes at Substack HQ there is growing tension between the writers and the Substack owners. It became clear that Substack’s lax moderation policy has not only refused to moderate extremist views (white nationalism, neo-confederacy, and Naziism), when challenged, the owners acknowledged the presence of bad actors and doubled down on the commitment that all ideas should be allowed in open discourse and to be defeated by debate rather than moderated by the platform. There are more twists and turns that I could share and nuance to add, but the bottom line is that I don’t want to share space with hate. It’s my gut feeling that everyone here reading Glioblastology agrees with that general premise.
Free Subscribers
If you are a current free subscriber to Glioblastology, great! You do not need to do a thing! I have exported the subscriber list to Wordpress, and other than a slightly different email format, you’ll continue receiving posts delivered directly to your inbox. Easy peasy! Feel free to drop by the new place and take a look around. You’ll find all of our old posts there, and a little more.
If you are a paid subscriber, or maybe you’ve decided now is the time to increase your support to paid, you’ll want to read the next section. Simply follow the instructions below. I do have a couple of premium features in store.
Paid Subscribers
First, if you are a paid subscriber, thank you! My commitment remains to make nearly all content available for free to everyone, and your financial support means a great deal to me! I welcome your continued paid support, and you’ll need to take one additional step. You will need to re-subscribe to Glioblastology at a paid tier; $8/month or $80/annually. What happens if you’ve already supported at an annual level on Substack? Read on yet one more time!
All Billing is Now Paused!
As of 4:30 pm EST, Sunday, January 21, 2024, all billing on Substack for Glioblastology is paused! You will incur no additional charges from Substack.
Monthly subscribers. You will need to re-subsribe at the monthly rate. I do not want you to double pay, so feel free to reach out to ask when your billing cycle renews if you are not sure when it withdraws from your account. Because billing is now paused, you will not incur another charge here
Annual subscribers. I have already extracted a list of annual subscribers, and I will communicate with you separately with the renewal date in 2024 to inquire whether you would like to renew.
Stopping and restarting paid subscriptions is the clunkiest part of this change, but I hope you agree that the minor inconvenience is worth moving off a platform with which I suspect many of us ideologically disagree.

See ya over there!
